Parkin Schools Can't Pay Bills; State Board Steps In

AUGUST 8, 2005 - Posted at 11:14 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A Region 8 school district says it cannot pay its bills and will be annexed to another district this school year.

The state Board of Education this morning approved a designation of  "fiscal distress" for the Parkin School District in Cross County.  Officials say a dramatic loss of enrollment and resulting reduction in state aid will make it difficult for the district to function financially this year.

The state board approved the distress designation and will decide September 7 what neighboring district will absorb Parkin.
