Snacks and Sugary Drinks to be Limited in Arkansas Public Schools

LITTLE ROCK, AR - New mandatory limits on unhealthy snacks and drinks available to public school students are geared to help students avoid becoming obese.

The state Board of Education on Monday approved new schools nutrition standards that limit students' access to vending machines.  The rules limit the sizes of sugared drinks offered and require districts to demand more nutritious snacks be offered by vendors.

Officials say the changes will help parents, who are being encouraged to make sure children have healthy food offerings at home.
