Bootheel Woman Wins $30K in Missouri Lottery

STEELE, MO - A southeast Missouri woman's husband proved that diamonds are indeed a girl's best friend when he gave her a "Triple Diamonds" Scratchers ticket recently that turned out to be worth $30,000.

Jamie Murphy, 27, said her husband has been buying her one ticket from the "Triple Diamonds" Scratchers game each Friday when he cashes his paycheck, because, as Murphy explained, "diamonds are a girl's best friend."  A couple of weeks ago, she won $6 in the game, so when she stopped at Jim's Grocery in Steele on August 6, she redeemed the $6 prize and used it to buy three more of the $2 tickets.  One ticket turned out to be worth $2, and another turned out to be worth the top prize of $30,000.

"We're thrilled to death," said Murphy, a home health aide, when she claimed her prize yesterday.

Murphy said she and her husband, Danny, plan to use the money to pay off some bills, go shopping  for school clothes and supplies for her stepdaughter and take a trip to Tennessee to see her father.
