Arrest Made in Death of Poplar Bluff Girl

AUGUST 10, 2005 - Posted at 4:40 p.m. CDT

ACORN RIDGE, MO - A 19-year-old suspect is now in custody in the death of a 12-year-old southeast Missouri girl whose body was found Sunday in rural Stoddard County.  However, charges have not yet been filed.

The body of Miranda Dowdy of Poplar Bluff was found Sunday morning inside a barn near the Acorn Ridge community.  She and her twin brother had been spending the weekend with relatives.

The girl was last seen alive late Saturday night and was reported missing Sunday morning.

An autopsy was performed Monday.  Details were not released, but authorities say the autopsy indicated a "homicide."

Authorities believe the girl was killed inside the barn.  Authorities have not said if the victim left the relatives' home on her own.
