JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Construction crews have almost completed work on a bridge project in Craighead County that officials have worked on for nearly six years.
According to a Facebook post from Craighead County Judge Ed Hill, the Bono Bridge structure that replaced the old Bono Bridge is nearly ready.
"Construction is 99% finished," Hill said in the post.
In 2011, Burlington Northern Santa Fe demolished the old bridge in rural Craighead County. Railroad officials had stressed safety issues as a reason for the demolition.
County, railroad and state officials have been working on the project for several years.
After the project was put out for bid, officials said a new bridge would reconnect County Roads 352 and 353 and that a bridge would make travel safer in the area.
