IRS scammers calling Jonesboro residents

Scam Alert Scam Alert
JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Scammers posing as the IRS are at it again.

According to the Jonesboro Police Department, scammers posing as IRS agents are contacting people, demanding money and threatening them with arrest by local police officers if they don't send money.

Police Chief Rick Elliott says that's not accurate. His officers "cannot generally make arrests on federal cases," a news release said.

The scammers are using the numbers (337)  385-3827 and (360) 712-3724. However, they can use any number they want.

Anyone who receives a call from these scammers is encouraged to write down the scammer's name and number and contact your local IRS office to determine if the information is accurate. The Little Rock IRS office can be reached at (501) 396-5711

As always, do not send anyone money or gift cards over the phone unless you are certain that it is legitimate.
