JONESBORO, AR - The Board of Directors of the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce has unanimously voted to support the proposed millage increase requested by the Jonesboro School District. The decision follows a detailed presentation made to the board by JPS superintendent Steve Singleton on Monday.
According to a news release, "The Chamber recognized the district as the largest in the city, and that addressing the needs of the district would be a positive reflection on the community in the eyes of economic prospects."
The Board issues a resolution detailing its support.
It should be pointed out that the proposed millage increase is not citywide in Jonesboro, but only for patrons who live in the Jonesboro School District. In other words, if your residence is in the Nettleton, Valley View or Westside districts, you would not be affected by the proposed millage hike.
Meanwhile, the Craighead County Election Commission met today to set polling places for the September 20 education elections. They are as follows...
Brookland: Greensboro Community Center, Brookland and Lester Fire Stations
Buffalo Island: Black Oak City Hall, Monette Legion Hut, Leachville City Hall
Bay: Absentee and early voting only.
Jonesboro (Zones 1-7): YMCA (1421 W. Nettleton)
Nettleton: Absentee & early voting only.
