Suspect turns self in after West Memphis apartment murder

WEST MEMPHIS, AR (WMC) -

A West Memphis man turned himself in to police after a deadly shooting at an apartment complex Tuesday night.

Officers were called to Riverside Apartments around 8:30 p.m. and found 22-year-old Demetrius Hoard with multiple gunshot wounds.

Hoard was taken to the hospital in Memphis where he later died during surgery.

Investigators identified Carlton Barrett, 26, as the man responsible for the shooting. 

Officers said Barrett turned himself in to authorities Thursday morning.

He was wanted by West Memphis Police Department on charges of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a handgun.
