MARKED TREE, AR (KAIT) - The Marked Tree Police Department and the Marked Tree District Court are giving people a second chance to get their fines and court costs paid with an amnesty program which started Thursday.

According to a post on the Marked Tree Police Department Facebook page, the department and district will grant amnesty for people who have warrants for failure to appear, contempt of court and failure to pay fines, provided the person qualifies for the program.

During the program, which runs from March 1 through May 31, the courts will waive the warrant fees and jail time on the condition that full payment is received for the delinquent amount for anyone with a time payment agreement beginning March 1, 2016.

A person can also make a one-time payment of one-half of the fines owed if done before May 31, 2018, the post noted.

The program does not cover felonies, DUI, DWI, restitution, or any violation over $5,000.

Anyone wanting information on the program can call the Marked Tree Police Department at 870-358-2024.
