City council to address possible utility study

PIGGOTT, AR (KAIT) - The Piggott City Council discussed utility rates at their most recent meeting.

Piggott Utilities Director Brian Haley said he spoke to the city's engineering firm about doing a study on the rates.

Haley said a study like this has not been done in nearly 20 years.

He said the study could be very valuable for citizens.

"So, there's a lot that goes into the rates study and it gives you overall health of your system," he said.  "Where you need to be financially or are you collecting too much money and you could also look at maybe reducing rates."

The cost for a study to be done on the electric system and the water system would be around $30,000.

The proposal was presented to the city council, but it was tabled for the time being.
