JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - According to Jonesboro city communications director Bill Campbell, Chief Operations Officer Ed Tanner announced Friday his intentions to resign in order to take a private sector position in the city.

Tanner has worked with the city since August 2016 and was in charge of the city's non-uniform employees, including parks and recreation, streets, sanitation, E-911, and other departments.

In a statement, Tanner said he was appreciative of the opportunity to serve in city government.

"I'm very grateful to the mayor and the city of Jonesboro for the opportunity they have given me and my family over the past 18 months. I've learned a tremendous amount about the city's infrastructure and details of our quality of life operations. I'm most grateful to have worked with the professionals who serve our citizens day in and day out," Tanner said.

The resignation will take effect March 16, and the city will advertise the post in the coming weeks, Campbell said.
