WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - The ballpark at Stewart Park in Walnut Ridge has been getting a facelift.
Mayor Charles Snapp says the upgrades are a result of efforts from both the city and the Walnut Ridge School District.
Special soil mixtures have been added to the ball fields, while Snapp said these mixtures will hold up better when rain falls.
The bathrooms at the ballpark have also been renovated and concession stands have been repainted.
He said the ballpark will also have a new parking pattern soon.
Snapp said many people have taken notice of the upgrades and they will be beneficial to the town.
"Anytime we can get those schools coming in from other towns get the parents, the grandparents, the aunts, and uncles involved not only does it give the kids in town something to do it also helps the businesses in town," he said.
The school district helped with upgrade costs and they have also been helping with park maintenance and trash clean-up during their games.
Snapp said the collaboration with the school has been a success and there will be more improvements at the park in the future.
