JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - High school students from across the state filled A-State campus for many events, including the 80th Annual Communication Day.

A-State Chancellor Dr. Kelly Damphousse contacted Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson to get help making the day extra special.

Faculty members felt honored to hear that Governor Hutchinson created a proclamation making March 3rd Communication Day.

Students gathered on campus to showcase their talents. They competed in more than 20 competitions in broadcast and print journalism.

"We show them our facilities, but they compete and through that competition, they discover the beauty of the media and storytelling in all various forms," Dr. Osabuohien Amienyi, an A-State professor said.

Event organizers say Communication Day continues to grow each year. This year, nearly 85 students participated in activities.

An award ceremony was held in the ASU-TV studio, and awards were given to top finishers in each competition.
