MANILA, AR (KAIT) - Many people gathered in Herman Davis State Park in Manila for a World War I memorial tree planting on Sunday.
The tree was planted in honor of Mississippi County native, Private Herman Davis.
The Mississippi County Library System and the Manila Depot Museum came together to sponsor the planting.
Many citizens from Mississippi County attended the symbolic tree planting.
Event organizers say they also enjoyed seeing the many veterans who attended the ceremony today.
"We want to try to get all of our veterans together anytime we can for any type of ceremony," said Herman Davis Post Historian, Greg Roll. "To let them know that we still remember them, they're not forgotten by any means."
The ceremony also marked the 100th anniversary of Davis joining the U.S. Army.
It took organizers around six months to plan the ceremony.
"It's been a labor of love," he said. "We've enjoyed it for obvious reasons it's Manila's native son and he deserves all the recognition and credit."
