CRITTENDEN COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Approximately 20 families evacuated their homes near Earle this weekend as the Tyronza River floodwaters rose.

According to Crittenden County Judge Woody Wheeless, residents of the Apollo Acres subdivision north of Earle faced a mandatory evacuation Sunday.

Wheeless told Region 8 News the neighborhood sits in a low-lying area and is prone to flooding.

The Tyronza River reached 30 feet last Friday, sending water out of its banks and into some of the homes in Apollo Acres.

Rescuers were called to help Tamecka Robinson and her seven children to the end of their street.

"It's really pathetic," said Robinson. "I was really mad but I couldn't lose my composure because I have children and I had to think about where I had to place them."

The Crittenden County Office of Emergency Management and American Red Cross members set up a shelter at the local school.

EMA Director Bud Spears hopes the water will recede in the next two or three days.
