CLEBURNE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office has a new K9 officer.

According to a news release, their K9 officer at the time, Zeke, was in bad health and needed to retire.

The sheriff’s office began a fundraising campaign, and they also partnered with a calendar company. The proceeds would go toward a new K9 officer, equipment, and drug enforcement and training.

The fundraising campaign brought in just under $13,000, and the calendar project raised $4,500, according to the sheriff’s office.

With that money, the sheriff’s office was able to buy Xinie, a female German Shepherd from the Czech Republic, who they purchased through a police K9 supplier in North Little Rock.

Xinie is a multipurpose dog, which means she can locate and alert officers of drugs, evidence, and people.

She will also have the ability to protect her handler and apprehend a criminal if they attempt to flee.
