PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - The American Legion Post in Paragould has a new piece of equipment that is available for veterans to use that aims to increase their mobility and independence.

Post 17 bought an Action Trackchair in November, but it has only been used in parades so far.

The group wants veterans with mobility limitations to know they can rent the chair for up to 5 days.

Post Commander Jim Largent hopes those vets will begin using the chair for things like hunting, fishing, or even just working in their yard.

"Most of those guys are closed up in the house," Largent said. "They can't get out other than, you know, going to the store or something with their normal wheelchair. So this gives them more opportunity to get out and have some fun."

Largent said the trackchair is very safe and hard to turn over.

To rent the equipment, veterans should contact Larry Pierce at the VA Clinic in Paragould. He can be reached at (870) 239-6315.

The veteran or someone accompanying them must have a valid driver's license and insurance to tow the trackchair's trailer.

Largent also said they need more involvement in the local American Legion to make more of these opportunities possible.
