WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - A newly formed college band now has its first member.

Williams Baptist College announced in a news release Thursday that Ashlyn Marlow of Pocahontas signed on as the band's first recruit.

Marlow inked her intent during a ceremony Wednesday.

She is a two-time All-State selection on clarinet and has been an All-Region choice five times in her band career, the college stated. Marlow was also captain of the color guard for the Pocahontas High School marching band.

"It's exhilarating. No one else will be able to say they had this opportunity," Marlow said about the signing. "Williams is just a gorgeous place to be, and it has a great reputation."

WBC Director of Bands Brady Massey was also Marlow's director at Pocahontas.

Marlow will be a third generation WBC student. According to the college, her parents, Steve & Karen Marlow, are alumni, as well as her grandparents, Truman & Carol Chatman. Her brother, Josiah, is currently a sophomore there.

WBC announced plans to start a band last September during a board of trustees meeting.
