ST. FRANCIS COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Until a couple of days ago, the First Judicial District Drug Task Force was faced with financial uncertainty.
The drug task force originally called a meeting because federal funding ran out.
But Wednesday, Governor Asa Hutchinson released $600,000 in Rainy Day funding for Arkansas' drug task forces.
Drug task force officials on Thursday discussed the possibility of becoming self-funded in the future.
The commander of the task force, Lisa Julian, said they need to be prepared to keep the task force working on their own.
"It is so important for drug task forces to continue to operate in Arkansas because so much of the crime that goes on in the district has some sort of tie back to drugs in one way or the other," Julian said.
The First Judicial District will continue to apply for federal grant money.
The commander said this is just a Plan B should they face federal funding uncertainty again.
