JACKSON COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The five companies have been selected to grow medical marijuana in Arkansas and one company reversed course on its location on Friday.

This means there will be two medical marijuana cultivation facilities in Jackson County.

The first company, Delta Medical Cannabis Company LLC, will be located on Victory Blvd. in Newport.

Now, Natural State Wellness Enterprises, which was originally expected to be located in Jefferson County, formally selected Jackson County as its county of operation.

On behalf of the company, former Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said they are excited about this decision.

"I know that the leadership in Jackson County is happy to have the jobs of not just one but two cultivation facilities," McDaniel said. "I suspect that having two cultivation facilities in Jackson County will mean added investment in way of vendors, commerce, and employment."

McDaniel said he is very appreciative of the leadership in Jackson County and their support in the company's location efforts.

The community's reaction was overwhelmingly positive as well.

Multiple residents of Jackson County said Friday the more jobs, the better.

"It'll be better for people to have a better opportunity to find a job and try to get up on their feet and start a better life," Jackson County resident Kempley McCoy said.

"We start studying it more and provide more jobs for the community and people get education and stuff off of it," Deavanta McCoy, another resident, said.

McDaniel said they are excited to start construction, which will be almost immediately.
