SOUTHEAST MISSOURI (KAIT) -

Two people were seriously injured in separate Missouri crashes over the weekend.

Just after 10 p.m. Saturday, a group of teenagers was driving down Howell County Road 5470 near Pomona when the 2000 Jeep Liberty they were in went off the road and struck a tree.

Curtis Lovan, 17, of Willow Springs was a passenger and did not have his seatbelt on, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

He was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to a West Plains hospital for treatment. Three other people inside the vehicle, including the driver, were taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.

The following day in New Madrid County another crash occurred around 2:20 p.m.

According to MSHP, 64-year-old Brenda Manes of Malden was riding in a 2008 Smart Car on Route D near Malden when it went off the right side of the road, struck a ditch, and overturned.

Manes was taken by helicopter to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment. The driver, 69-year-old Benjamin Manes of Malden, was taken to the same hospital by ambulance with moderate injuries.

Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
