Committee tables ordinance to move money to fund road project

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Jonesboro Finance and Administration committee tabled an ordinance that would transfer $2 million from the city’s reserves to help fund the widening of Harrisburg Road.

The ordinance would amend the 2018 budget to move the money from the general fund reserves to the capital improvement fund.

The ordinance states the project limits need to be extended from Forest Hill Road to the entrance of the Fire Station Number 4 to better accommodate traffic demands in the area.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation indicated the work for the project can be extended if the city is willing to pay the difference in the project’s cost, according to the ordinance.

The ordinance was tabled at the committee meeting Tuesday and will be discussed at their next meeting.

The ordinance would have to go before the full city council before any money could be moved.
