Jonesboro, AR-- It's time to get rid of the old and make room for the new. We're talking about yard sales, and people are getting more than a deal here in Jonesboro.

Ron Shipley, Director of the Jonesboro Code Enforcement said residents are allowed 4 yard sales a year, but you have to have them registered.

Registering a Yard Sale? It may sound strange, but it's easy and it doesn't cost anything. Shipley says it's there way of keeping track of the amount of yard sales so they don't turn into businesses.

"We really need to keep track of the yard sales, because the more frequent they are, they can really create traffic problems. We want to control the abundance of articles in the yard over an extended period of time."

How did this all get started? Shipley says it concerns drivers and their need for concentration.

"It's illegal to hand flyers on road signs or telephone poles, but people use hot pink or orange signs to attract buyers, but this also distracts them from the road."

Signs should be at least 15 feet from the edge of the road, and should be on a stake, or on the side of a box.

To register, you can call 933-4602 and give them the location of the sale and the time.
