JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A new duck calling contest is coming to Jonesboro.

The new event was discussed at the Jonesboro Advertising and Promotions Commission meeting Tuesday.

Dennis Noell with DNW Outdoors is putting on the sanctioned duck calling contest and presented to the commission.

Jerry Morgan, chairman of the Jonesboro Advertising and Promotions Commission, said they’ve wanted to see an event like this come to Jonesboro.

“We’ve talked about it for the last couple of years trying to get it in the works, so Dennis and his organization are stepping up,” Morgan said. “He has the contacts, and I think Dennis is very modest about it, but he has the contacts that can really make this big for Jonesboro.”

The commission granted $5,000 to Noell for the regional duck calling contest to help with advertising and prize money.

Noell told the commission this contest will bring in people from multiple states and have an opportunity to involve youth hunters.

“As everyone knows duck hunting in our area is huge, and I think it will be an event to really draw in more people before the season starts,” Morgan said.

Noell said he hopes the contest will become a yearly event, and the winner of the duck calling contest will qualify for the world competition.

The duck calling contest is set for August 18 in Jonesboro.
