JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Randolph County man reportedly told police that he stole checks and cashed them, using the checks to buy groceries, Jonesboro police said Wednesday.

Matthew Thomas Thompson of Pocahontas was arrested on suspicion of second-degree forgery and theft $5,000 or less but greater than $1,000-all others after an investigation by Jonesboro police.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Thompson and a female suspect had taken the stolen checks, during the month of February, to buy things at Walmart stores in Jonesboro.

"Matthew Thompson and the female suspect both are seen on video handling the checks and giving them to the cashiers," the probable cause affidavit noted.

Police believe the amount totaled over $1,000 and that Thompson told authorities that he used the checks to buy groceries. A $1,500 bond was set for Thompson, who will be arraigned April 27 in circuit court.
