Arkansas State Police on Hurricane Stand-By Status

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas State Police are on stand-by status because of Hurricane Katrina.  Colonel Steve Dozier says their assignments and schedules are subject to change, depending on the needs of neighboring states affected by the hurricane.

Dozier has been in contact with his counterparts in Louisiana to assure him that a contingent of 40 Arkansas State troopers is ready to move into Louisiana, if needed, to help with law enforcement there.  Dozier has made a similar offer to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.  Arkansas State troopers who might be called on to cross into either state would be used at roadblocks, in traffic control or search and rescue efforts.

Dozier said also that the commitment of extra state troopers in south Arkansas will not affect the response time or emergency services to other Arkansas counties.
