INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A replica of a historic boat capsized in the White River on Thursday as it began its journey from Batesville to Jacksonport.

According to a press released from the Independence County Sheriff's Office, the department's dive team, the Oil Trough Fire Department, and the Newark Fire Department were dispatched to an area at the end of Pageant Island.

When they arrived, the boat was on its side in the water.

All of the boaters had made it to the north bank of the river.

The first responders worked together to get all 15 of the people back across the river.

The Oil Trough Fire Department then took them to their vehicle, which was waiting at Jacksonport.

The Keel Boat Committee was in town on Wednesday to show off their wooden replica, called the Aux Arc.

It was built in 2004 in the design of an 1800's keelboat.

The committee does one trip each year in the wooden ship.
