PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -

An area school district is making information about what's for lunch as quick and easy to access as possible.

The Paragould School District is now offering “EZ School Lunch”.

This is a lunch app available for download to students and patrons.

Technology Coordinator at Paragould School District, Vernon DuBar, said adding a lunch app just made sense.

“It’s an app for android or IOS,” DuBar said. “It’s also web-based. You can go to EZ School Lunch.com. You can go in and search for the school. You find your school and select it and then you’ll see their lunch menu in an app form or on the web. Also, you see the nutritional information for that day. The kids on their phones can also load it. They can also vote on their food and whether they really like it or not. It gives feedback to the nutritional director to see what items are really like by the students and what’s not.”

DuBar said the lunch app is also being used to monitor what they’re serving for students who need to be careful about what they eat.

“They also use it with kids who have diabetes or need to be gluten-free,” DuBar said. “And any other health problems to keep up with their carbs and their calories and their nutritional facts. So, it’s a really handy tool. It’s something we started offering a few months ago and I feel it’s a great thing for our students and patrons.”

DuBar said people seem to really like it.

“The response has been great,” DuBar said. “It’s a simple app to use. It gives you information and it’s not hard to set up. They seem to really like it.”

DuBar said members of their nutrition department first started checking into the app.

“Our nutrition department looked at this,” DuBar said. “We use several of school solutions products for our lunchroom to take payments. We also do easy school pay where parents can log in and pay their school's lunch. So, if you forget to give your kids the money in the morning you can log in, put money on their account and they walk in at lunch and the money is there. So, we already use some of their products and this was just another product they offered that would just add to what we’ve been doing. We also use their easy meal app for free and reduced lunches. We were one of the first ones in the state to be approved to take a free and reduced online applications. It works hand in hand with all these other apps, the school lunch app, the meal app and the pay app. This was just another add-on module.”

DuBar said they want to do what they can for the school’s students and parents.

“It was simple to set up,” DuBar said. “Simple for parents to use and for the kids to use. So, it just made sense. It was just something else we could offer to the patrons and students of our district that would make their life a little bit simpler.”
