SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A man accused of shooting someone in late March is now in jail awaiting a probable cause hearing, officials said Saturday.
According to Sharp County Sheriff Mark County, Jessie Leon Hutchins turned himself into authorities Saturday in connection with the March 29 shooting.
Sheriff's deputies had been searching for Hutchins, who they say opened fire on another man, shooting him in the knees and buttocks.
Sharp County deputies were called to White River Medical Center after the victim came in with two separate gunshot wounds to his lower extremities.
The man told investigators he went to a woman's home to sell her a dog, court documents stated.
As he approached the front door, the victim said the woman's boyfriend, later identified as 44-year-old Jessie Leon Hutchins, came from behind the residence with a shotgun in his hands and said, "I got you. Now you're dead."
The victim told deputies "Jessie raised the gun and fired a round striking [him] in the knees."
When the man turned to run back to his truck, he said Hutchins shot him again in the buttocks.
The next day deputies obtained a search warrant for Hutchins home where they reported finding a spent 20-gauge shotgun shell, seven firearms, and numerous amounts of ammunition. Deputies also found a metal box containing syringes, baggies, a glass smoking device with residue, and a baggie containing a white crystalline substance.
A judge later issued a bench warrant for Hutchins arrest on suspicion of battery, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
