POINSETT COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Poinsett County is dealing with a sewage pipe collapse underneath the jail.

The collapse happened in the kitchen area, so the jail is still operational.

Chief Deputy Chris Crews with the Poinsett County Sheriff's Department said since they've had to get a company inside to fix the pipes, security measures have amped up a bit.

No inmates had to be moved completely out of the jail.

But this has impacted where inmates are held within the jail.

"We have moved inmates around to make sure that we get them up to the front of the courtroom on time and in a timely manner," Crews said.

Crews said problems with the pipes started early in the week.

Once the pipes were inspected, they realized they had rusted through the bottom causing the collapse.

Crews said they are working to replace it with a plastic pipe, and they should finish that by Saturday.
