RECTOR, AR (KAIT) - It's a welcome home that event organizers say was decades overdue.
Rector's Vietnam Era Veterans were celebrated on Saturday.
Many gathered lining Main Street for a welcome home parade.
The event brought many community members and visitors out to show their thanks for the veterans' service.
Organizers say the event is simply a small way to say thank you for the veterans' sacrifices.
"I remember my brothers talking about how they were mistreated when they came back into the country and they never really got the welcome home," said event coordinator Joey Pruett. "We have this beautiful park here and I thought well this is our time."
One man said the event was also a way to honor Vietnam Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.
"Rector gave four young men's lives to Vietnam and I didn't want to see them forgotten and this is going to renew their legacy," said Rector native Bill Carter.
