JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Arkansas State University will host sexual assault awareness week, starting on Monday.

Event coordinator Chocoletta Simpson said she hopes the event will engage those on campus in important conversations to help raise awareness.

Throughout the week, the university will have guest speakers, information booths and other interactive events on campus.

Simpson said raising awareness about sexual assault is important for a college campus.

She hopes raising awareness will help students be prepared with the resources and information they need.

"This is about them right, this is their campus, their community and we want them to feel safe and them to know what resources we have," she said.

However, she hopes the conversation will continue even after the event ends.

"It's not just about next week, it's about our entire campus from here on out," she said.
