PEMISCOT COUNTY, MO (KAIT) - Pemiscot County has a new K-9 deputy on patrol.
Sheriff Tommy Greenwell announced Monday that Deputy Logan and his handler Deputy Ross Pilcher are now on duty.
Deputy Logan will be used for drug detection and tracking. Greenwell stated the officer will be utilized on highways, at the jail, and at schools. He is also available to all local agencies.
The new K-9 deputy replaces Deputy Shocks who was retired due to his age. He remains with handler Deputy Sgt. Bryan Burgess.
Greenwell stated a fund to help the K-9 unit is set up at First State Bank and Trust locations in Caruthersville, Hayti, Portageville, and Sikeston.
For those wanting to donate to the operation fund, the account name is the "Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office K-9 Fund."
Fundraisers will be held in the future to help the effort, Greenwell said.
