Expert Says Arkansas Gas Stations Drying Up Statewide

AUGUST 31, 2005 - Posted at 8:08 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Gas stations across Arkansas have reported running out of fuel in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Director of the Arkansas Oil Marketers Association Ann Hines says consumers have filled or topped off their tanks since the storm hit, and that has contributed to the excess demand.  Lack of barge traffic on the Mississippi River and equipment problems at a Memphis refinery are also contributing factors.
