HARRISBURG, AR (KAIT) - Harrisburg is making a change to one of its animal control ordinances, simply because a citizen asked.

Before, horses were not allowed within 1,000 feet of the nearest residence.

Mayor Randy Mills said a change to just a 150-foot restriction will go before the council next week, just because a resident asked.

Mayor Mills said a resident on the edge of the city has had horses since November, without realizing there was a restriction.

When the city found out, they had to ask him to move the horses.

So, he went to a city council meeting to appeal the ordinance.

"Come to city hall and sit down and talk about it," Mills said. "We want to work with people, now we can't do this if it will harm the neighbors, but there's no harm here so I don't see a big problem with it."

Mayor Mills said it's important for citizens who have a problem or want to see a change to contact city hall.
