JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A group of high school students from around the state had the opportunity Friday to learn what is needed to achieve success after high school, especially with so-called "soft skills."

The Had2SOAR College and Career Readiness Forum were held at Arkansas State University.

The initiative by Ron Watson and former Arkansas basketball great Sidney Moncrief helps to teach the skills to students before they are ready to get a job.

Watson said the skills are important to employers as well as to the students.

"No one's really teaching the soft skills that our young people need. Communication, accountability, integrity, these are things you've got to have to go and sell an employer that you can trust me, you can hire me, I'll give you my best," Watson said.

The program has received support from several businesses including Walmart, which allowed several of its top-level managers to answer questions as part of a panel discussion on the issue.
