PEMISCOT COUNTY, MO (KAIT) - A Missouri man is recovering from injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Brandon Hamm, 19, of Hayti was driving east on Interstate 55 when he became distracted by looking at his phone.

Hamm hit a guardrail on the overpass, of Exit 14 on the interstate. The MSHP says 5 feet of the guardrail and two poles were damaged because of the wreck.

Hamm was taken to a Hayti hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The Ford Mustang that he was driving was towed away from the scene after extensive damage to the vehicle was reported.

A crash report indicates Hamm was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
