MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - One Region 8 college is offering an incentive for law enforcement to continue their education.
Arkansas Northeastern College offers a tuition waiver for classes toward a degree in Criminal Justice or Criminology.
It's for current police officers, corrections officers, and firefighters in Mississippi County.
The waiver allows for up to 6 credit hours per semester, and they can be taken in the classroom or online.
Instructor Tim Bentley is a former police officer as well, and he said this program is personal for him.
"One of my goals was to prepare police officers," Bentley said. "To prepare them to be better police officers, to think about preparing themselves for the future, for promotions while they're working as a police officer, as well as to retire."
This waiver would make online classes about $118 and live classes only $58 for officers.
This opportunity is only for current officers in Mississippi County, but Bentley said the college, of course, offers other scholarships for those interested who are not already working in the field.
