OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) - One Region 8 school is expecting a new athletic facility to be completed soon.
The Osceola School District is in the process of building a new basketball arena.
Superintendent Michael Cox said this project has been a long time coming.
The city passed a millage increase in 2016 to fund upgrades to the school's facilities.
Cox said they updated the football facilities last summer, and they should complete the new arena this summer, but definitely before the start of the new school year.
"We're really excited about it," Cox said. "I know when we get that built we'll have a grand opening and Osceola citizens will really be proud of it and hopefully we can have a state tournament here next year, we're going to try to do that and show it off to everyone in Arkansas."
The arena is expected to cost about $6 million.
Cox said some local businesses have donated funds for the new arena as well.
