OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) - The Osceola School District is in the process of completing a new basketball arena, and it has inspired a new academic program at the high school.
Superintendent Michael Cox said they will introduce a video production class for the new school year.
Cox said it will be a great hands-on experience for kids, as well as help highlight the basketball games in the new arena.
"I think it'll be a really good experience and there's a lot of journalism involved," Cox said. "The kids will be writing stories about it and I think the students will be excited about it because they like to do hands-on projects."
Cox said they already have a teacher at the school with television experience to teach the class.
They plan to have students run cameras and sound equipment at the new arena, and he would like to eventually live stream those games on the internet.
