VILONIA, AR - Officials with one state school district said Wednesday that they were wrong in asking a student to remove an American flag on a car in the district's parking lot this week.
The Vilonia School District apologized for the decision in a Facebook post.
"Many are aware of a situation that occurred yesterday at our high school, where a student was asked to remove an American flag from his vehicle on the school parking lot," the post noted. "It was never our intention to prevent demonstrations of respect for our nation's flag. We proudly display our flag on campus and in classrooms and students and staff recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day. We have reviewed yesterday's event and want to assure parents and patrons that students will be allowed to display the American flag and/or the Arkansas state flag on vehicles."
