LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Officials at the Lawrence County Courthouse are hoping to soon have a new staff member walking the halls.
Recently, the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department moved out of the courthouse and into their new facility.
Additional safety measures have also been added to the courthouse, including a panic button.
Lawrence County Judge John Thomison says safety is a number one priority for the courthouse and adding a deputy would help further ensure safety.
"That physical presence just adds a calmness to everyday work environment here and that's what we want," he said. "It's something that the public relies on as well."
Thomison said the deputy will also help when court is in session.
The Lawrence County Quorum Court will vote on the issue in May.
