JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A new report ranks Jonesboro the 5th best city for working parents in America.
Jonesboro city officials released the ranking Wednesday by SmartAsset, a financial technology company. The company ranked Jonesboro at the 7th spot a year ago.
According to the press release made available from the city, the company highlighted affordable childcare and Jonesboro is among the lowest.
The nationwide report states childcare has increased by 39% over the past decade.
The new report did not catch working Jonesboro parents off guard, especially Connie Smith, a mother of three.
"I can believe it," Smith said after finding affordable and safe childcare for her kids in the city.
"As a single parent, this is good for me, where I was living at, I couldn't have gotten this there," Smith said. "It was a no-go for me, so I had to move and had to adjust to be a single parent and this made it possible. Jonesboro made it possible."
It also touched base on Jonesboro's low unemployment and the strong economy.
Many residents in Jonesboro who reacted to the report said the city could use some improvement on commute times and traffic.
Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin said though he is pleased with the report, there's still work underway to better the community.
"It pleases me to be acknowledged among the best cities in America in yet another study," Perrin said. "But we are still just cutting our teeth on all the quality of life plans we have in store. We have so many people invested in Jonesboro, and if we all pull together, I think you'll see us ranked No. 1 in studies like this before long."
Orem, Utah stole the top spot on the list. The report cited its quality of life, strong employment and short commute time.
