BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas Museum's Association holds a conference each year to honor museums for their work around the state.

This year, one area museum won an Outstanding Achievement Award at that conference.

The Delta Gateway Museum in Blytheville recently completed its first long-term exhibit, Delta Natives: The Mississippian Period.

Founding Director Leslie Hester said they started raising money for this exhibit back in 2013.

And Hester said it feels fantastic to be recognized after their years of hard work.

"That's really the best way to describe how winning an award like this feels," Hester said. "One because it's a statewide award, and two because we were recognized by our peers, by other museum professionals and that just tops it off."

Hester said this exhibit will likely be a permanent fixture in the Delta Gateway Museum.

If you'd like to see the award-winning exhibit, Hester said the museum is open to the public Tuesday - Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
