Playhouse gets facelift in Randolph County

POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - The Downtown Playhouse in Pocahontas is in the process of being renovated.

The $40,000 project will give the outside of the playhouse a new look.

Downtown Playhouse general manager Kelly Grooms said the historic building opened in the 1940's as the Imperial Movie Theater.

The building then went on to serve as the home for several other businesses and in 2014, it became the Downtown Playhouse.

Thanks to funding from donations and ticket sales the outside renovation can finally begin.

"Now we're finally giving it a beautiful facelift on the outside to match the heart of the place on the inside," he said.

The new look will add a neon marquis and more exaggerated contours to the building.

The project should take about six weeks.

Grooms said the project will be completed in time for their July show.
