BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

A man who wants to see Blytheville become a better community has earned an honor.

Sandy "Bebe" Gillespie has been selected for a community service award, according to Little Rock NBC station KARK.

Gillespie works with Healing in the Hood, an organization that focuses on community service, mentorship, drug education, and providing drug-free activities.

"I once was part of the problem, but now, I thank God that I am part of the solution," Gillespie said.

Gillespie hopes to use lessons from his past to give kids a better shot at the future.

He was nominated by Jocelyn Pettus, who wrote a piece about Gillespie that you can read here.

This week, Gillespie receives his honor alongside ten other individuals and groups from across the state.

The 41st annual Arkansas Community Service Awards are Friday.
