MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The Mississippi County Sheriff is working to lend a hand to a local community by asking to donate one of the department's old cars.

The Keiser Police Department typically has two patrol cars.

But after Mississippi County sheriff's deputies received a call about a vehicle fire on April 2, Keiser's newest car was destroyed in the fire.

Sheriff Dale Cook said Arkansas State Police is still investigating the cause of the fire, but now Keiser is left with an unreliable one.

So, Sheriff Cook is requesting to donate one of the sheriff's department's old cars to the city of Keiser.

"I thought it would be a good gesture if we gave them or awarded them one of our old police cars that are getting ready to be auctioned off this summer to them to help them out of a bind," Cook said.

The request was unanimously approved Monday night by the finance committee.

Now, Sheriff Cook will take it before the Quorum Court to vote on the request next Tuesday.

Keiser Mayor Sandra Smith said she is very appreciative of her neighbor's helping hand.
