BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT) - The Brookland School District is working to increase its security, with school officials saying recent incidents nationwide have provided a reason.
"It comes off the heels of the shooting that occurred in Florida that just brings a light to everything that enforced us to take a look at what we are doing," Brookland School District Superintendent, Keith McDaniel told Region 8 News.
Two different law enforcement agencies will be spotted on campus now.
McDaniel said the district is adding a third school resource officer.
"We are a growing school district and four years ago, we went to two school resource officers at that time with the Craighead County Sheriff's Department and now we've decided to add a third SRO and partner with the Brookland Police Department," McDaniel said.
The district is also currently working on other ways to better school safety.
"We've had an outside group come in and evaluate things and they'll report back with us on the things we can do for safety concerns," McDaniel said. "We are still going through the process, we haven't finalized everything, but people will be able to see it in the near future as far as those new changes we are going to be able to make."
