CLAY COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The Clay County Quorum Court recently approved a resolution to replace all the county's wooden bridges with steel.
County Judge Mike Patterson says crews hope to replace three bridges before the end of 2018.
He said over time, heavy farm equipment and natural wear and tear can cause issues with wooden bridges.
Patterson said these kinds of bridges can also even catch fire because they are made of wood.
He said the new steel bridges will be a better choice for the county.
"With the steel bridges we've had real good luck with them and less maintenance they last a lot longer," he said.
The county has about 25 bridges that must be replaced.
Some of the bridges will be replaced using FEMA money or state aid funding.
