WHITE COUNTY, AR (KAIT/KARK) -

A project to help the mentally ill and homeless in White County has often been a place of last resort for people who sometimes have no other place to go.

The project called Mission Machine is the only emergency intake for homeless people in the county, according to KARK.

The group has a camp just outside Searcy, with tents and people looking for a place to live and to work. The group also has a warehouse nearby where people can take showers, wash clothes and study the Bible.

The group has been struggling to help people, who are often referred to them by Searcy police or the White County Sheriff's Office. However, several people who are mentally ill are arrested and end up in jail, facing charges like trespassing, officials told KARK.
